There. I said it. I miss having meetings. Those of you who’ve known me for a while understand the hilarity of that statement, though. I used to hate meetings and would lament their apparentl uselessness to anyone who’d listen. I saw meetings as a wasted of time because, really, you rarely end a meeting with a new deliverable. The actual “work” doesn’t begin until everyone returns to their desks and re-enters the “head’s down” phase of the work cycle.
When building a new business relationship, about 50% of the legwork is done during the first handshake. Your goal should be to make a good first impression, whether you’re the client or the consultant. Taking five minutes to review your objectives for the meeting will help you keep your focus and make sure that first meeting is productive.
It’s incredibly rare for me to schedule a business meeting on a weekend. As a matter of fact, I’ve only ever had one other weekend business meeting, and it came at a significant cost to my client. I value my time off, and you’re going to pay extra if you encroach on my weekend down-time.
