30 Days of Blogging


Some time ago, I participated in an event dubbed the “30 Days of Blogging.”  It was an informal challenge between friends to post fresh content each day for 30 consecutive days.  I had a lot of fun, unfortunately the challenge was somewhat disorganized and most everyone dropped out by the end of the first week.

This time, I wanted to get behind organizing things.  So, starting on December 1st, we will be having our second annual 30 Days of Blogging contest.  More details will follow on Jumping Duck Media’s website, but here’s a quick overview of the rules:

  1. You will post a previously unpublished entry every day for 30 consecutive days during the month of December.
  2. December 25th is considered an official “skip day,” meaning you don’t have to publish on Christmas if you don’t want to.  This skip day will not be counted in or against your 30 days.
  3. Each post must be 300 words or more.
  4. You can not post someone else’s content as your own.  You are still encouraged to publish guest posts during the month, but guest posts will not count in your 30 days.

That’s about it for now, pretty basic.  The goal of the month of blogging is to seed whatever topics you want with fresh content.  If you’re writing a new book, it’s a great way to get your start and begin compiling data.  It also helps pop your blog to the top of Google searches fairly quickly.

Participants are also strongly encouraged to read one another’s stuff and share links across the competition.  We want everyone to have a larger audience at the end of the month, and supporting each other’s work is one way to accomplish this.
