For those of you who’ve noticed, I’ve been fairly silent for the past few days. Part of that was a result of being swamped with work. Part of it was a nasty bug I picked up last week (though I can finally breathe without rattling again!). As much as I’ve wanted to put content out, I just really haven’t had the time and worrying about a consistent update schedule has pushed me to the brink of “blogging burnout.”
So I’m taking some time to re-evaluate and repurpose my sites. I still want a presence online in the form of a blog. I still want to talk about my faith, the struggles and achievements of my everyday life, and all things code or marketing related. I’m just not sure I want to do that every day, and I’m not sure I should be doing it all in the same place.
So here’s my interim proposal:
- I finish up the outstanding blog posts I owe you
- I owe you a review of a WordPress development book, a marketing strategy book, and a Photoshop tricks book.
- I owe you a post updating my work with the Google Reader API
- I owe you a post about how addiction to the worldly interferes with faith
- I owe you an update on my upcoming 10-year reunion tour of Yosemite
- Establish a structure of my different sites
I currently run this blog, a Twitter feed, a personal portfolio for my work, a Facebook page, and a blog for my creative writing. There needs to be a clear distinction between each, but they should also blend somewhat – think of blurry lines separating a Venn diagram. - Pull together a “best of” archive
Let’s face it, some of my content is great, some is mediocre, and some is plain boring. I want to cull as much of the crap as I can so you can get to the articles, essays, and tutorials you actually want to read.
My goal: Have all of this done and my sites re-launched by Easter.
That gives me a month and a half. A month and a half to make good on promised content, figure out the direction for my multiple online brands, and deliver a consistent experience for all of you. That said, building a network of sites for you works better if I know what you want to read. So, if you’d be so kind as to fill out the short survey below, I’d be eternally grateful.
I might even consider giving away some Amazon gift goodness to the people who give me really inspired feedback.
