This weekend, I attended WordCamp Portland. It was a fantastic event, full of geekiness, nerdiness, and the occasional professional statement or two. On Saturday, I had the chance to watch Tyler Sticka’s fantastic presentation on using WordPress to run a portfolio. It’s inspired me more than ever to finish the new design for this site, because it heralds a much larger change around here than just the look and feel of a blog.
First of all, Mindshare Marketing will be changing its name to “Mindshare Strategy.” The new name opens up my ability to talk about more than just marketing. I’m refining my focus on small businesses and start-ups and will still be mostly talking about market strategy. At the same time, I will start pulling in other concepts other than just marketing, sales, and advertising. To celebrate the new name, Mindshare Strategy will be hosted on its own domain: www.mindsharestrategy.com. Old hyperlinks will still work, but the dedicated domain name will make it easier for search engines to find content.
Next, I’m going to rebuild my primary site, www.eamann.com, into a portfolio and personal journal. Basically, a showcase of my work and a venue with which to talk about pretty much anything I want to that doesn’t fit elsewhere. Rebuilding this site will require yet another custom theme, so work won’t start for some time.
Finally, I will be creating a third blog-style site: Prose Painting. This will be hosted on a dedicated subdomain, www.prosepainting.com, and will feature my recreational creative writing projects. I’ve had one of these before (http://unpublishedart.blogspot.com), but this will be linked to my other work and far easier for search engines to reference.
So three websites to (re)build by the end of the year. Can I do it? Definitely. Can I do it well? Absolutely. Will it inspire others to do the same? I sure hope so!
