Just as web development has its own set of rules, so does marketing as an overall practice. The following guidelines are not meant to be all-encompassing or exhaustive, but they will give you a framework with which to enter into the field.
… then it doesn’t exist.
That was a statement a business professor once made to me and I found myself repeating to one of my students this past week. It’s a solid piece of business advice no matter what industry, market, or profession you’re in. However groundbreaking that idea was or whatever innovative concept you just created is worthless if you forget to write it down.
Everything in business has its own set of rules – unbreakable guidelines we follow to create a killer product, write an amazing app, or deliver a remarkable service. The following are the Ten Commandments of web design. Following these rules will help you create an amazing website for your business.
A majority of the web development work I do is free. I offer the resulting products free of charge and I grant users permission to study, edit, and redistribute the code. This is part of my goal to support the GNU General Purpose License. The GPL is an attempt to propogate free software (think free speech, not free beer). Users have the freedom to do whatever they want with the code, which promotes continued development and innovation.
