The Internet is Changing the World

That’s hardly a “news break,” but this morning I noticed one more way in which the Internet is shaking up the “regular order of things” — “Cyber Monday.” Retailers have for some time called the Friday after Thanksgiving — claiming it to be “the biggest shopping day of the year.” Watchers of our economy look at the figures for “Black Friday” (as it is called) and can predict whether we are in a recession or an expanding economy. So much of our economy revolves around our propensity to BUY BUY BUY at this time of year. Thus, “Black Friday” is indeed an important economic indicator. [Read more...]

Lies

I finally got around to seeing Body of Lies, the Russell Crowe-Leonardo DiCaprio thriller from last summer. I never got the opportunity to see it in theaters, though I tried … multiple times. Unfortunately, it was in and out of theaters so fast that I’ve had to sit and wait patiently for it to come out on video. Finally, I was able to download the video via iTunes and watched it Monday night. [Read more...]

Extortion

When I was younger, cell phones were a big deal. And I mean “big” as in they were huge and incredibly rare unless you were a lawyer, doctor, or pimp. When my family finally got into the cell phone market (one of my parents is in medicine :-) ), we had two separate phones.  What’s the point of having just one if there’s no one to call.  It came in handy on Boy Scout trips when someone needed to be picked up and as a just-in-case-we-get-lost on family vacations. Good Morning Nashville

Apologies for the lack of a post yesterday, but I was travelling until late and working until later.  My day started at 6am Pacific time and ended around … 2? Central time.  The plane trip was great, thankfully uneventful.  Though the Portland ticket guy forgot to give me my transfer and I almost missed my connection in Denver.  Yay for adrenaline!
