I was asked the other day what my level of experience was with web 3.0. Last I’ve heard, though, the world is still catching up to 2.0, let alone experimenting with the next stage. It seems a few companies are trying to push their way upwards and onwards hoping to beat the rush to new technology. To give you an edge, here are a few of my favorite web 3.0 applications (also called “new” or “emerging” media). [Read more...]
The Olympic Effect
I LOVE the Olympics. The last two summer Olympics involved me staying up until unheard of hours of the morning to watch my favorite events (Is there really a 2 o’clock in the AM? Wow!) This year’s games are no different. My favorite athletes of old might not be competing (I’m still upset at Marion Jones, by the way), but there are new names and faces the world over to cheer for throughout the events. [Read more...]
On Writing and Other Things
Update: Finally, my computer agrees with me and I’ve gotten you an image of the cover. Enjoy!
This week was big in the world of publishing. That is to say it was big in my world of publishing. As most of you know, I started a publishing company in April called Jumping Duck Media. Since then, I’ve put together a multitude of websites and blogs, and actually started working on a couple of book ideas. That, though, is all on the me side of things.
As a publisher, I get to work with other people, too! I’m happy to say that this week was huge for Jumping Duck. Our first fiction novel is nearing publication; I got the advanced reading copies in the mail on Monday and started sending them out for reviews. Hopefully the actual book will be in print by the end of the month.
Also, I shipped my first book to the printer on Wednesday. It’s a self-help/career education book by my friend, Sean Harry. All of the paperwork is registered, and I should be receiving the proof copy from the printer any day now! Two months ago I thought I’d never make it this far … as per my last post, I was standing at the bottom of the cliff. Now, halfway up the rock, I realize that reaching the top is a possible achievement. Woo hoo!
Climb On!
One of my favorite things to do is climb. I may be afraid of heights, but it’s a wonderful feeling reaching the top of a boulder or wall and looking back on an accomplishment. From the bottom, the climb looks impossible, just take a look at my brother climbing at Broughton Bluff yesterday. [Read more...]
Ah, the Outdoors
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to go hiking a bit just outside of Portland. I went with my parents out to Broughton Bluff at Lewis and Clark State Park. It’s off I-84 right next to the Sandy River. The park is gorgeous; lots of fields, great interpretive signs about the Pacific Northwest, and, of course, the bluff. [Read more...]
Wow
When I started this site a little over a year ago, I knew it was going to be hard work. I started with daily updates, switched to twice-weekly updates, went back to weekly posts, and finally dropped back to thrice-weekly updates. This isn’t quite working for me, though.
There’s a lot I want to say and do with this site, unfortunately my time is demanded elsewhere and I can’t commit to thrice-weekly pillar posts. Instead, I offer this compromise: I will continue my Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule with two adjustments.
- Pillar posts will appear on Wednesdays. These are longer, essay-style articles that address marketing and branding theory. They will also improve in quality from past articles as I will be able to devote more time to research and preparation.
- Shorter update posts will appear on Mondays and Fridays. These will be quick, no-more-than-500 word articles either updating you on upcoming/past pillar posts, current happenings in the marketing world, or interesting things happening in my life as a marketer.
I’m hoping this will relieve at least some of the time crunch I’ve been feeling lately. Feel free to leave feedback on this idea or other suggestions for how we can continue working together.
